Gwangju Dongbu Police Station Presents Appreciation Plaque to Financial Institution Employee Who Assisted Victim of Phone Financial Fraud
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] On the 10th, the Gwangju Dongbu Police Station announced that it presented certificates of appreciation to two bank employees who contributed to preventing telephone financial fraud damage by visiting financial institutions in the region.
Financial institution employee A became suspicious when a customer visited on the 5th and requested to withdraw 10 million won in cash. When asked the reason for the withdrawal, the customer said, "The loan company said they would provide a low-interest loan, so I need 10 million won for repayment."
Recognizing this as a voice phishing attempt, A immediately reported it to 112 and persuaded the victim to delay until the police officers arrived.
Another employee, B, also prevented a financial loss of 10 million won by directly calling the company that contacted the victim to verify the facts.
Police investigation confirmed that the victim intended to withdraw cash because the loan company said they would provide a low-interest loan upon repayment of a total of 10 million won, including a loan amount of 7.6 million won and a penalty of 2.4 million won.
