Polytech Opens Gwangmyeong Convergence Technology Education Center... Dedicated to New Industry and Technology Vocational Training
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Korea Polytechnic University has opened the 'Convergence Technology Institute' in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi Province, targeting the youth who will lead the Digital New Deal.
Park Hwa-jin, Vice Minister of Employment and Labor, attended the opening ceremony of the 'Polytechnic Gwangmyeong Convergence Technology Education Center' held on the 10th. The event was attended by Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun, National Assembly members Im Oh-kyung and Yang Ki-dae, Gwangmyeong Mayor Park Seung-won, Gwangmyeong City Council Chairman Park Sung-min, and Korea Polytechnic Chairman Lee Seok-haeng, among others.
The Polytechnic Convergence Technology Education Center is responsible for vocational education and training in new industries and new technology fields for college graduates facing difficulties in employment. To make it easily accessible to the youth, it is located in a convenient urban area. Following the center in Bundang in 2016, this is the second urban public vocational education and training facility established in Gwangmyeong.
The Gwangmyeong Convergence Technology Education Center will train 100 students annually, with 20 students each in five promising future industry fields: ▲Data Analysis ▲Electrical Energy Systems ▲Bio Convergence Systems ▲3D Product Design ▲Augmented Reality Systems.
Vice Minister Park stated, "We plan to continue expanding investment in people in the digital and new technology fields to nurture on-site practical talents who will lead the Digital New Deal. We will also open and share excellent vocational training infrastructure such as the Gwangmyeong Convergence Technology Education Center with local citizens."
Korea Polytechnic Chairman Lee Seok-haeng said, "We will focus our capabilities to ensure that the education center establishes itself as an important milestone in vocational education that will open the future of the Digital New Deal and as an innovative model of vocational education."

Korea Polytechnic is recruiting new students for the 2021 academic year vocational education training courses until February next year. Including the Gwangmyeong Convergence Technology Education Center, 5,605 students will be selected across 178 departments at 35 campuses nationwide.
