In a congratulatory message posted on Twitter on the night of the 7th (local time), President Mattarella said, "At this very complex time worldwide, the American people have chosen you as their president," and "On behalf of the Italian people, I extend my warmest congratulations."
He continued, "The United States has played a leading role in establishing the principles of multilateralism for a long time," and explained, "In this unprecedented crisis where health, life, and the future of millions are at risk, the international community needs the support of the United States."
