KMA "Magnitude 2.9 Earthquake East of Sangju, Gyeongbuk" (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] The Korea Meteorological Administration announced that an earthquake with a magnitude of 2.9 occurred around 3:26 PM on the 8th, 5 km east of Sangju-si, Gyeongbuk.
The epicenter was located at 36.41 degrees north latitude and 128.22 degrees east longitude, with a depth of 9 km.
This earthquake ranks as the 5th largest on the Korean Peninsula this year and the 4th largest in South Korea.
The instrumental intensity was a maximum of 4 in Gyeongbuk, and a maximum of 2 in Gangwon, Gyeongnam, Daejeon, Jeonbuk, Chungnam, and Chungbuk.
An instrumental intensity of 4 means many people indoors feel it, some wake up from sleep, and dishes and windows shake.
An instrumental intensity of 2 is a level that only a few people in quiet conditions or on upper floors of buildings can feel.

The Korea Meteorological Administration urged, "People in areas near the earthquake epicenter may feel the tremors, so please be cautious for your safety."
