Honam University Wins Bronze Award at International University Students Creative Car Competition
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Honam University announced on the 7th that students from the Department of Future Automotive Engineering won two bronze awards in the electric vehicle racing category at the '2020 International University Student Creative Car Competition Awards Ceremony' held on the 6th at Dongja Art Hall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
The Homica and Mobidic teams from Honam University's Department of Future Automotive Engineering participated in the electric vehicle racing category of this competition, held from the 28th to the 31st of last month at the Automotive Safety Research Institute in Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do, with electric vehicles applying self-developed new technologies, winning two bronze awards.
Under the guidance of Professors Yoo Yong-min and Son Byung-rae, the two teams built electric vehicles equipped with the self-developed 'In-Wheel Motor,' attracting significant attention from the automotive industry.
The 'In-Wheel Motor' is a new technology developed by Honam University's Department of Future Automotive Engineering that embeds the drive motor inside the wheels of all four tires, greatly enhancing driving performance and cornering capabilities.
The Homica team previously submitted an electric vehicle equipped with the In-Wheel Motor to the '2020 University Student Self-Made Car Competition' hosted by the Korean Society of Automotive Engineers (KSAE) in August, winning the grand prize in the technology idea category.
