View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The government announced on the 6th that it will broadcast the opening ceremony of the '2020 Hallyu Expo' worldwide at 6 p.m. on the 7th in cooperation with related organizations.
The event is jointly hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, KOTRA, and the Korea Creative Content Agency. It will be broadcast globally through YouTube (SBS, KOTRA channels).
Seven popular Hallyu star groups overseas, including Taemin, Super Junior-D&E, Yesung, Hwang Chiyeul, Lyn, Ailee, and Soyou, will participate in the 'K-pop & K-Drama OST Concert.'
The government explained that the focus is on linking the overseas popularity of Korean popular culture to the overseas expansion of Korean products.
Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun encouraged businesspeople struggling due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) through a video congratulatory message. He supported Korean products represented by 'Hallyu' and 'K-brand.'
Prime Minister Chung is expected to express his hope that this Hallyu Expo will further activate economic and cultural exchanges with major countries such as Asia and Russia and serve as a good opportunity to broaden South Korea's diplomatic horizons.
Since 2010, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy has held the Hallyu Expo at least once a year in ASEAN, Europe, and other regions. While solidifying economic and cultural exchanges and cooperation with major countries, it has supported marketing to open overseas sales channels for Korean products.
This expo is held in conjunction with the 2020 Korea Sale Festa. With about 1,650 companies participating, the government expects it to become the largest-ever expo connecting Hallyu culture and business.
This year, especially in line with the COVID-19 situation, an untact opening ceremony will be held along with side events such as ▲ online Hallyu product exhibitions ▲ collaborative promotions with overseas distribution networks both online and offline ▲ special exhibitions for startups' overseas expansion.
First, through BuyKOREA, South Korea's representative B2B platform, online exhibitions such as the Korean Excellent Products Exhibition, World-Class Products Exhibition, and World-class Product Show 2020 will hold business consultations by region and sector to discover new export opportunities.
For B2C events, a Korean product sales promotion exhibition will be conducted in collaboration with 110 major overseas online and offline distribution networks.
In regions where conditions permit, such as Thailand and Indonesia, experiential exhibitions for visitors are linked by operating Korean product showrooms in local famous shopping malls.
Eleven influencers from various fields, including Pony (beauty), Eric Nam & Lee Jongim (food), and Lee Sangmi & Christian (daily necessities), have been recruited to demonstrate 135 participating consumer products.
Live commerce will be actively utilized by linking purchase sites so that overseas Hallyu fans can be connected as consumers of Korean products.
Additionally, about 300 global companies and investors will be invited to hold events such as consultations, webinars, and pitching competitions, including the '2020 Global Open Innovation Korea' and 'Startup Technology Cooperation Online Consultation,' to support the overseas expansion of domestic startups and prospective entrepreneurs.
