Guro-gu Confirms Next Year's Living Wage at 10,702 Won per Hour
1.7% Increase Compared to This Year ... 1,982 Won More Than Next Year's Minimum Wage
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) has finalized the 2021 living wage at 10,702 KRW per hour.
Guro-gu raised next year's living wage by 179 KRW (1.7%) from this year's 10,523 KRW. It is 1,982 KRW higher than the statutory minimum wage of 8,720 KRW per hour for next year.
For 209 working hours per month, the monthly salary amounts to 2,236,718 KRW.
The living wage is set by reflecting regional characteristics such as housing costs, education expenses, cultural living expenses, and price levels so that workers can maintain a minimum dignified life.
Guro-gu recently held a living wage committee meeting and decided to apply the same amount as Seoul City's living wage for next year.
The living wage applies to workers affiliated with Guro-gu, Guro-gu funded and supported institutions, Guro-gu Facilities Management Corporation, and university student part-timers.
The application method is to pay a compensation allowance equal to the difference if the ordinary wage paid to the worker is less than the monthly living wage amount.
Guro-gu enacted the Guro-gu Living Wage Ordinance in March 2015 and has been implementing the living wage system since July of that year.
