Implementation of 5030 Speed Reduction Safety Sign Installation Project
[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 4th that it plans to complete the installation of safety signs and road surface markings by December to lower the speed limits on major roads in Gokseong-eup, Ogok-myeon, Okgwa-myeon, and Seokgok-myeon to 50~30km/h.
The project target sections include major residential roads in Gokseong-eup, main arterial roads such as the Train Village in Ogok-myeon, central roads in Seokgok-myeon, some sections of National Route 27, and central roads in the Okgwa-myeon urban area.
To this end, the county will cooperate with the Gokseong Police Station and the Korea Road Traffic Authority to install 137 safety speed limit signs and 281 road surface speed markings in the relevant sections.
The so-called ‘Safe Speed 5030,’ which lowers speed limits to 50~30km/h, is a policy to create a pedestrian-centered road environment and will be fully implemented nationwide from April next year. The main content is to reduce speed limits to 50km/h on general urban roads and 30km/h on residential and living streets.

A county official said, “Reducing the speed by just 10km/h results in a 13.3% decrease in total accidents and a 63.6% decrease in traffic accident fatalities,” adding, “We will continue to expand and improve traffic safety facilities to prevent traffic accidents caused by speeding.”
