Space Forum 2020 'New Space and Korea's Space Development'
Ministry of Science and ICT Hosts 'Korea Space Forum 2020'
[Asia Economy Reporter Junho Hwang] The Ministry of Science and ICT will hold the 'Korea Space Forum 2020' at the JW Marriott Hotel in Seoul on the 5th and 6th.
This event was organized to review South Korea's space policy direction in the NewSpace era and to discuss ways for the space industry to sustain growth. NewSpace refers to the trend of space development led by innovative private companies.
On the first day of the forum, space security policies and space exploration plans in the NewSpace era, as well as space development trends of emerging space nations, will be shared.
Thomas Mueller, former Chief Technology Officer of SpaceX, will share the reasons why rocket companies including SpaceX are advancing beyond low Earth orbit and his experience in training rocket engineers.
Mark Kirasich, Deputy Director of NASA's Space Exploration Directorate, will introduce the Artemis program, the U.S. lunar orbital space station construction program.
Megan Clark, Director of the Australian Space Agency, will present cooperation plans for space development between Korea and Australia, along with Australia's space development plan aiming to create 20,000 jobs by 2030.
On the second day, trends in technology development of overseas space companies related to NewSpace will be shared, and the development direction of the domestic space industry will be discussed.

Minister Choi Ki-young stated, "I hope that Korea's space industry can take a leap forward through the Korea Space Forum, which involves the best experts in the space field," and added, "The Ministry of Science and ICT will spare no financial and institutional support so that the private sector can take bolder challenges in the space industry and continue to develop."
