Jongno-gu Awarded Grand Prize for Excellence in Reading Management Workplace
Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hosts 'Excellence in Reading Management Workplace Certification' Grand Prize...Highly Praised for Efforts to Establish Proper Public Service Values and Promote Integrity Culture Through Reading
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jongno-gu (Mayor Kim Young-jong), which has been striving to create an organizational culture that communicates and grows through books, achieved the great success of winning the 'Grand Prize' in the 7th Excellent Workplace in Reading Management certification evaluation.
The Excellent Workplace in Reading Management certification project, hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, is conducted to discover cases of reading-friendly companies or organizations with learning and culture by creating a reading environment in the workplace to enhance communication and creativity of organizations and individuals.
The evaluation criteria include 'accurate understanding and vision of reading management,' 'establishment of short- and long-term plans,' and 'systematic book selection, reading activities, and feedback.'
It must be confirmed that both the members and the organization are growing together through reading, and only when such a process is led by the head of the institution can the workplace be certified as excellent.
In the case of Jongno-gu, it was highly evaluated for efforts to establish a proper public service perspective and spread a culture of integrity through reading, based on Mayor Kim Young-jong's administrative philosophy of "making Jongno a better place to live through books."
One example is the 'Continuous Reading Learning' program, which operates a systematic reading management system within the workplace. Last year, Jongno-gu supported reading activities for about 1,100 district office employees through the Continuous Reading Learning program, contributing to the growth of both the organization and individuals.
Additionally, various support measures are being promoted to foster a reading culture in the workplace, such as 'Book Recommendations of the Month' and 'Donation Book Sharing Exhibition.'
This year, not only has book support been expanded, but the newly established 'Saga Reading Learning System' received positive responses from employees, and in August and September, the 'Jongno Reading Management Event' was held as part of a non-face-to-face education course.
The Reading Management Event was planned to help improve employees' creativity and work capabilities as well as to relieve fatigue caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
Accordingly, a book report contest was held for all district office employees on the themes of 'Precious Things We Had Forgotten' and 'The Sparkling Moments of My Life,' and outstanding works were awarded at the 'Reading Talk Talk Concert' held at the end of September.
Moreover, at the concert, senior reading champions of Jongno-gu shared their personal reading methods, reasons for reading, and recommended books with their juniors.
