KOSPI and KOSDAQ Rise Over 1% on Foreign and Institutional Net Buying... Recover 2300 and 800 Levels in One Day
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The KOSPI and KOSDAQ indices rose more than 1% as both foreign and institutional investors engaged in net buying, recovering the 2300 and 800 levels in a single day.
On the 2nd, the KOSPI closed at 2300.16, up 33.01 points (1.46%) from the previous day. The KOSPI started higher, fluctuated around the 2290 level during the session, and slightly expanded its gains toward the end of trading to close above 2300.
Looking at trading trends by participant, institutions and foreign investors led the index rise with net purchases of 48.7 billion KRW and 47.7 billion KRW, respectively. In contrast, individual investors net sold 107.6 billion KRW.
By sector, banks (3.29%), steel and metals (2.77%), transportation and warehousing (2.64%), finance (2.62%), and insurance (2.25%) rose.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, POSCO (3.85%), Hyundai Motor (3.65%), Samsung Biologics (2.35%), LG Household & Health Care (2.07%), and Kia Motors (1.98%) increased, while NAVER (-1.55%), Samsung SDI (-0.45%), and SK Hynix (-0.38%) declined.
In the KOSPI market, 683 stocks rose, including 4 stocks hitting the upper limit, while 165 stocks fell with no stocks hitting the lower limit. 62 stocks remained unchanged.
The KOSDAQ index also rose more than 1%, recovering the 800 level. The KOSDAQ started higher, showed mixed trends early in the session, but gradually increased its gains to close at 802.95, up 10.30 points (1.30%) from the previous trading day.
Similar to the KOSPI, foreign and institutional investors led the rise with net purchases of 120.6 billion KRW and 8.9 billion KRW, respectively. Individual investors net sold 114.7 billion KRW.
By sector, computer services (3.69%), digital content (3.07%), telecommunications equipment (2.82%), and information devices (2.45%) rose, while (-%), (-%), and (-%) declined.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, Genexine (3.55%), SK Materials (2.61%), Kakao Games (2.44%), KMW (1.93%), and Celltrion Pharm (1.75%) rose. In contrast, Hugel (-1.67%) and CJ ENM (-0.23%) declined.
