Expressing Gratitude for Essential Workers' Efforts and Dedication... Gangdong-gu Operates Labor Rights Center and Mobile Worker Support Center to Improve Working Conditions
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, participated in the relay campaign "Thank You, Essential Workers" to express gratitude to essential workers engaged in face-to-face labor despite the crisis situation caused by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
This campaign is for essential workers who continue to provide face-to-face services without interruption to protect the lives and safety of the public and maintain social functions amid the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and the normalization of non-face-to-face interactions.
It was organized to encourage and support essential workers working in various fields such as healthcare and medical care, caregiving, delivery services, sanitation workers, manufacturing, logistics, transportation, construction, and telecommunications.
Gangdong-gu opened the "Labor Rights Center," the first of its kind in the country operated directly by a local government, on June 20 last year with the goal of becoming a "Labor-Friendly City Gangdong." The center provides a one-stop labor welfare service that integrates all functions including employment, labor, welfare, psychological counseling, and support for small business owners. So far, it has completed nearly 1,600 labor consultations and legal advice cases, striving to improve labor welfare for vulnerable labor groups.
Additionally, on September 2 of the same year, the "Mobile Workers Support Center" was opened for mobile workers in poor labor environments, taking the lead in enhancing labor rights and protecting the rights of mobile workers such as delivery drivers and substitute drivers.
Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, who was nominated by Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, said, "Thanks to the essential workers who work hard day and night under difficult conditions, our daily lives can be maintained," and expressed his sincere gratitude for their efforts.
He also said, "This campaign is an opportunity for all of us to pay attention to and support the efforts and dedication of essential workers."
