'Fasting Protest in Front of the National Assembly' Park Isam, Chairman of the Eastar Jet Union, Faints and Is Taken to Hospital
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] Park Yi-sam, chairman of the Eastar Air Pilots Union, who had been on a hunger strike in front of the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul for the 16th day, was transported to a hospital on the morning of the 29th.
Chairman Park was urgently transferred by ambulance to Yeouido St. Mary's Hospital around 9 a.m. that day and is receiving emergency treatment.
A union official explained, "He seems to be physically exhausted due to the prolonged hunger strike," adding, "His condition suddenly worsened in the morning, so we called 119 and moved him to the hospital."
Earlier, Chairman Park began an indefinite hunger strike on the 14th after the mass layoff of 615 Eastar Air workers was carried out.
The union is urging the government and ruling party to take responsible measures, stating, "While 31.4 billion won in unpaid wages has occurred, the government and ruling party have taken no action."
