Expected Over 700 Rejections in Employment Ministry Application Results
Support Funds to Be Distributed in November After Local Government Eligibility Review
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Approximately 81,700 corporate taxi drivers applied for the project that provides 1 million won each. This number exceeds the government's target of 81,000 people.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced on the 28th that a total of 81,693 people applied for the 'Corporate Taxi Driver Emergency Employment Stability Support Fund.' This is about 700 more than the government's initial target of 81,000.
This project provides 1 million won per person to support the employment and livelihood stability of corporate taxi drivers who have faced difficulties due to COVID-19. A supplementary budget of 81 billion won was allocated, and the application period was from the 14th to the 26th of last month.
Each local government will complete the applicant eligibility review by early November and plans to disburse the support funds to eligible drivers by mid-November.
Kim Young-jung, Director of Labor Market Policy at the Ministry of Employment, stated, "We hope this support fund will provide some help to corporate taxi drivers struggling due to the decrease in passengers caused by COVID-19."
