Kim Du-kwan: "Yoon Seok-yeol, the Last Political Prosecutor of Our Era, Resign"
"Prosecutorial Reform Initiated by Former President Roh Must Be Completed by President Moon"
"Prosecutor General Yoon Seeks to Protect Prosecutorial Privileges and Block the Launch of the Corruption Investigation Office"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Juhyung] Kim Du-kwan, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, urged Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol to resign on the 27th, saying, "Yoon Seok-yeol will be recorded as the last political prosecutor of our era."
In a post on his Facebook on the same day, Rep. Kim claimed, "Prosecutorial reform started by President Roh Moo-hyun must be completed by President Moon Jae-in."
He continued, "In short, Yoon Seok-yeol's actions are to protect the vested interests of the prosecution and to block the launch of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO)," adding, "On the surface, Yoon Seok-yeol's political actions seem successful. He has succeeded in emerging as a key figure in the opposition."
He further stated, "The CIO forces the prosecution to relinquish its vested interests, so Prosecutor General Yoon is fighting at the risk of his position," and criticized, "That desire met with the opposition party that unconditionally opposes the Moon Jae-in administration, leading him to become an opposition presidential candidate. The prediction that Yoon will become an opposition presidential candidate is absurd."
Regarding Prosecutor General Yoon, Rep. Kim said, "He is pretending to wear a political outfit that does not suit him," and argued, "Whenever the new spirit of the era clears out the old vested interests, they have made the world noisy, and as a result, tried to stop reforms, but South Korean democracy has already surpassed that stage."
He concluded, "Prosecutor General Yoon should no longer stubbornly act for the benefit of the prosecution group and must resign," adding, "Your political lifespan ends here."
Earlier, on the 22nd, during the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee's audit of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, Prosecutor General Yoon said in response to a question about his post-retirement plans, "I will slowly think about how to serve our society and the people." When asked further whether politics was included in his service plans, he replied, "It is difficult to say at this time."
This sparked speculation in some political circles that Prosecutor General Yoon might be entering politics. In particular, the ruling party criticized Yoon, saying, "The prosecution is shaking politics."
Democratic Party members of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee continued their criticism of Prosecutor General Yoon's remarks during the Supreme Prosecutors' Office audit at the comprehensive audit held on the 26th.
On that day, Rep. So Byung-chul of the Democratic Party lamented, "The prosecution is shaking the political arena," adding, "Yoon Seok-yeol has emerged as a presidential contender, which means the Prosecutor General is shaking the political arena."
