According to CNN on the 23rd, the viewership across six major U.S. broadcast and cable channels was 55.2 million the previous day. This represents an 11% decrease compared to the 62 million viewers during the first TV debate on the 29th of last month across the same six channels.

The record for the highest TV debate viewership was 84.4 million during the 2016 presidential debates between Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton. The next highest was 80.6 million during the 1980 debates between Democrat Jimmy Carter and Republican Ronald Reagan.
