[Asia Economy Reporter Ki Ha-young] DB Insurance announced on the 22nd that it held the ‘DB Insurance Transportation and Environment Challenge 2nd Term’ Demo Day organized by the Korea Productivity Center.

The Transportation and Environment Challenge, held the previous day, is a social contribution project hosted by DB Insurance, organized by the Korea Productivity Center, and sponsored by the Ministry of Environment. It discovers social ventures that solve social issues in the transportation and environment sectors through business models and supports them with business funds, education, and acceleration programs. The Demo Day is an event that marks the finale of the project after the final selection of five social venture teams for the 2nd term in June, providing up to 60 million KRW per team and 10 weeks of acceleration support.

This Demo Day was attended by a minimal number of people to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and was broadcast live online through a YouTube channel.

The event began with an opening speech by Ko Young-joo, Head of Management Support Office at DB Insurance, and greetings from Kim Dong-su, Head of Sustainable Management Promotion Team at the Korea Productivity Center. It proceeded with the presentation of the DB Challenge Impact Report, business presentations by five 2nd term challenger teams, growth status presentation by one 1st term challenger team, and a real-time Q&A session.

The five teams introduced their businesses and achievements and shared future growth plans: ‘GED’, a team developing IoT-based technology to restrict and monitor driver smartphone use; ‘Bluewing Motors’, implementing the conversion of existing fuel-powered two-wheelers to renewable electric two-wheelers; ‘Softgear’, developing technology to prevent traffic accidents near tunnels using highly directional speakers; ‘LBS Tech’, providing walking navigation services for people with physical disabilities; and ‘LK Green’, developing a semi-permanent air purification product applying air washer filters.

Additionally, for the 2nd term Challenge, a new corporate diagnosis and mentoring program was introduced to support the continuous growth of 1st term companies. Among the five teams that participated in the 1st term, ‘Dorosi’, a team developing an IoT-based road safety diagnosis system, presented its growth status and business achievements since the 1st term project.

A DB Insurance official stated, “We will spare no effort to ensure that the Challenge can be a starting point for social contribution activities that present new solutions to transportation and environmental social issues and create diverse social values.”
