Seoul Gangseo-gu Urgently Provides 2.48 Million Masks to Security Guards and Others
In Response to the 'Mandatory Mask Wearing' Policy, Emergency Support Provides 2.33 Million Masks to Vulnerable Groups and Apartment Security Workers... 180 Million Won Worth of 150,000 Masks Supported for Senior Welfare Facilities
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) will urgently provide 2.48 million masks to places in need of mask support in line with the enforcement of the 'mandatory mask-wearing' policy.
Since the law mandating mask-wearing took effect on the 13th, after a guidance period, a fine of up to 100,000 KRW will be imposed for violations starting November 13.
With growing concerns that COVID-19 will resurge this fall and winter, the district has taken steps to support masks at the public level to protect residents' health and reduce economic burdens.
Between October and November, 2.22 million KF94 masks (60 masks per person) will be distributed to 37,000 basic livelihood security recipients and lower-income groups.
In particular, an additional 100,000 KF80 masks (10 masks per person) will be provided to about 10,000 basic livelihood security recipients aged 65 and older.
Also, Gangseo-gu and the Gangseo-gu Labor Welfare Center will deliver 10,000 KF80 masks (10 masks per person) and quarantine supply sets (hand sanitizers, mask straps, etc.) to about 1,000 apartment security workers in over 300 complexes within the district by the 22nd.
The masks and quarantine supply sets were prepared by the Seoul Labor Rights Center and the Labor Welfare Center to protect the health of apartment security guards who have many face-to-face activities despite COVID-19.
For 63 senior welfare facilities used by elderly vulnerable to disease, 180 million KRW will be provided for mask purchase costs, and by November, about 15,000 masks will be supplied to approximately 5,000 seniors.
Additionally, the district plans to support masks and other quarantine supplies to 375 daycare centers that have started reopening as social distancing measures have been eased to level 1.
A district official said, "Masks have become an essential quarantine item and a daily vaccine due to the spread of COVID-19," adding, "We aim to fulfill the role of a public institution to protect residents' health in this special situation of infectious disease spread."
