Meat is All About Size... CU Launches 'Meat Series' with Don Spike
Launch of the 'TtungHandonS Series' on the 22nd
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] ‘Size Matters for Meat’
CU announced on the 22nd that it is exclusively launching the ultra-large processed meat series ‘Ttungan Donseu Series’ in collaboration with Don Spike, releasing three differentiated products including Ttungan Mega Donseu Bar and Ttungan Donseu Tteok Steak.
Don Spike, a composer and singer, is known as one of the top meat lovers in the entertainment industry, running a YouTube channel called ‘Gogiri Don Spike’ that introduces recipes, mukbangs, and popular restaurants related to meat. The channel has 110,000 subscribers. Don Spike actively participated in all processes of the Ttungan Donseu Series products, from planning and recipe development to taste testing and packaging, utilizing his expertise.
The Ttungan Mega Donseu Bar, in the form of a hot bar, features a size twice that of a regular hot bar (180g). It comes in two flavors: Original and Cheese with added cheddar cheese, priced at 3,000 won. The Ttungan Donseu Tteok Steak is a tteokgalbi steak rolled with garaetteok inside minced pork, priced at 3,900 won. Weighing 330g, equivalent to two servings of meat, it offers a generous portion even for adult men. A special steak sauce is also included.
The reason CU partnered with Don Spike is that his unique philosophy about meat aligns well with the actual consumption trends of processed meat products in convenience stores. According to CU, 70% of processed meat customers are males in their teens and twenties, and products eligible for additional promotional giveaways account for about 90% of total sales. This is because a single typical hot bar or sausage weighing around 80-90g is often insufficient.
Yeom Jun, MD of the Fresh Food Team at BGF Retail, said, “With growing customer interest in various and delicious ways to enjoy meat, as seen in recent YouTube and broadcast meat-specialized programs, we launched collaboration products with Don Spike. Since this series was planned with Don Spike, who takes pride as a meat expert, we plan to introduce products that offer not only generous portions but also trustworthy taste.”
