[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] It has been revealed that U.S. President Donald Trump has opened and holds an account in China.
The New York Times (NYT) reported on the 21st (local time) that, after analyzing President Trump's tax records obtained independently, he has opened and maintained an account at a bank in China.
According to the report, the account is managed under the name of Trump's company, Trump International Hotel Management, and between 2013 and 2015, paid $188,561 (approximately 213 million KRW) in taxes to China.
Trump's attorney, Alan Garten, explained regarding this, "The account was opened at a Chinese bank in the U.S. to pay local (Chinese) taxes," adding, "It was to explore the possibility of hotel transactions in the Asia region."

Additionally, Attorney Garten emphasized, "No contracts or transactions were realized, and the office has not been used since 2015," and "Although the bank account is maintained, it has not been used for any other purposes." However, Garten did not disclose which bank the account was opened at.
