Superintendent Cho Hee-yeon’s Special Lecture on ‘Future Education Directions and Attitudes Toward Life After COVID-19’
Jongno-gu to Host Jongno Innovation Education Week from October 23 to November 5... Featuring Guest Speaker Relay Lectures, Youth Education, and Contests
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jongno-gu (Mayor Kim Young-jong) will officially operate the ‘Jongno Innovation Education Support Center’ starting November 2 to nurture the dreams and talents of children and adolescents, and to commemorate this, it will present the ‘Jongno Innovation Education Week’ event.
The Innovation Education Week runs from October 23 to November 5. During this period, Jongno-gu plans to conduct a relay lecture series and programs for parents and students to share the values and vision of innovative education.
First, the invited guest relay lectures will be held three times at the Gu Office Hanuri Hall under the theme ‘Future Education Direction and Attitude toward Life after COVID-19.’
The first lecture, held on the 23rd, will be delivered by Professor Kim Nuri of Chung-Ang University’s Department of German Language and Literature, author of ‘Corona Sapiens’ and ‘Our Misfortune Is Not Inevitable.’ The lecture is titled ‘The Role of Parents in the Post-COVID Era.’ He plans to discuss a new direction for our education that focuses on the role of parents in finding children’s happiness and dignity in life.
The second lecture, on the 27th, will feature Cho Hee-yeon, Superintendent of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education. This session is intended for members of the Jongno Innovation Education District Working Council, subcommittee members, and village teachers, focusing on ‘The Values and Directions of Seoul-type Innovation Education.’ It aims to discuss the need to create an educational community that cooperates and practices together as the role of innovative education grows due to COVID-19.
The third lecture, on November 3, will be led by Professor Choi Jae-chun of Ewha Womans University, who is also the representative of the Biodiversity Foundation. Under the title ‘Corona Sapiens and Ecological Transition,’ the lecture will address how to respond to the era of repeated infectious disease pandemics that may occur after COVID-19 and discuss our lives in this context.
In addition to the lectures, the district has prepared a video contest and education for youth. From October 26 to November 20, a video contest titled ‘My Daily Life I Want to Share’ will be held. The contest theme is daily life that one wants to share with friends to overcome COVID-19 depression. The final selected works will receive the Jongno-gu Mayor’s Award and will be promoted through the Jongno TV channel.
Following this, from November 2 to December 31, a video education program titled ‘Wise Part-time Job Life for Teenagers’ will be introduced. Educational videos incorporating rights and common knowledge about healthy and safe part-time jobs for youth will be produced and uploaded to the Innovation Education District youth education YouTube channel. This media education, in the form of a web drama based on real cases, aims to engage teenagers’ interest.
Meanwhile, the ‘Jongno Innovation Education Support Center,’ which will serve as the hub for Jongno-type innovative education, will be established within the Education and Innovation Education Team on November 2. The center will be headed by the Innovation Education Team leader, and additional dedicated personnel will be recruited by the end of this year to operate the center more effectively.
Key tasks include fostering village education communities, activating public-private-academic governance, and building village after-school networks.
Mayor Kim Young-jong stated, “To mark Innovation Education Week, we plan to operate various programs such as guest lectures and youth contests. We will strive to widely promote the value of innovative education where children grow their dreams, develop healthily, and find happiness within the community.”
