Come to the Sintree Park Traditional Rice Harvesting Experience Event
COVID-19 Prevention Rules Followed for a Safe and Exciting Children's Rice Harvesting Experience
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) will hold a traditional rice harvesting experience event for children in the city at 10:30 a.m. on the 23rd at Sintree Park (3 Mokdongdong-ro, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul).
Yangcheon-gu has four rice farming experience sites (Sintree Park, Yeonui Ecology Learning Center, Urban Agriculture Park, and Anyangcheon Riverside), where rural landscapes that are hard to encounter in the city are created, providing natural learning opportunities that stimulate the sensitivity of growing children.
The rice harvesting experience event in the city at Sintree Park on the 23rd will resume operation while adhering to basic COVID-19 prevention rules, as social distancing has been eased to level 1.
First, the number of participating children will be limited to around 30, masks will be mandatory during the experience event, and to maintain a minimum distance of 1 meter between individuals, participants will be divided into groups of 10 to disperse the activities.
The event schedule will proceed under the guidance of the instructor from the Sintree Little Farmer School in the order of rice harvesting → rice threshing using a ‘holte,’ a type of traditional farming tool → observation of the threshing machine. After the experience event, participants will have a valuable time observing the field crops such as cabbage and radish, which are about to be harvested, while touring the park’s vegetable garden.
The cabbage, radish, and green onions in the Sintree Park vegetable garden will be harvested by children from prescheduled daycare centers and kindergartens during the week of November 2 to 6. The harvested crops will be donated free of charge to nearby senior citizen cafeterias and other facilities.

Kim Soo-young, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “These days, when most park culture and leisure programs have shifted to non-face-to-face and have been reduced due to COVID-19, it is truly fortunate to be able to provide a unique rural experience opportunity that can nurture the sensitivity of urban children through a small-scale harvest event.” He added, “We will continue to consider ways to operate the Little Farmer School safely and enjoyably in preparation for the post-COVID-19 era.”
