LANSIS Operates 'LANSIS Science Classroom' for Youth
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] German specialty chemicals company LANXESS will operate the ‘LANXESS Science Classroom’ for youth at local children’s centers and social welfare centers in Seoul until December.
The LANXESS Science Classroom is an educational support activity by LANXESS aimed at helping young people develop an interest in science and technology and grow into future talents. It particularly focuses on providing quality educational opportunities to youth who have relatively fewer chances for science education.
This science classroom will be conducted in cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Boramae Youth Center, targeting about 90 youths from six local children’s centers and social welfare centers. The schedule will be flexibly managed according to the social distancing levels to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Classes will be held six times at each institution and will be centered on various experiments and hands-on activities that allow participants to see and touch, making it easy and fun to explore scientific principles such as chemistry and physics.
Ko Je-ung, President of LANXESS Korea, said, “Although many things have stopped due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, education is an important matter that cannot stop. We hope that LANXESS’s educational support activities will provide youth with opportunities to take an interest in science and contribute to providing quality education opportunities, which is one of the Sustainable Development Goals.”
Meanwhile, the Seoul Metropolitan Boramae Youth Center, established in 1986 as the first youth center nationwide, provides comprehensive services including education, counseling, welfare, and career guidance for youth. It specializes in aviation and science fields, and is expected to provide expertise in operating the LANXESS Science Classroom.
LANXESS considers educational support an important element of sustainable corporate policy and has been conducting various social contribution activities supporting STEM education such as mathematics, information and communication, natural sciences, and technology sciences for youth near its global business sites since 2008. In Korea, it has donated science experiment kits and sponsored chemistry experience camps, and has been operating the LANXESS Science Classroom since 2018.
