Biological Mother Who Neglected 5-Year-Old Son Beaten to Death by Remarried Husband Sentenced to Prison Again in Second Trial
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] A biological mother who was charged with neglecting to prevent her remarried husband from beating her 5-year-old son to death was sentenced to prison again in the appellate court.
According to the legal community on the 20th, the Seoul High Court Criminal Division 2 (Presiding Judge Sanghoon Ham) dismissed the appeal of A (25), who was charged with violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Child Abuse (child abuse resulting in death) and special injury, and sentenced her to five years in prison, the same as the first trial. The court also upheld the first trial's orders of completing 120 hours of child abuse treatment programs and a 10-year employment restriction in child-related institutions. The court stated, "Considering the degree of the defendant's involvement in the crime comprehensively, the sentencing in the first trial is not deemed excessively harsh or unfair."
