[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Simmons, a sleep specialist brand, held a farmers market under the theme 'Support Icheon' to help farmers in the Icheon area who suffered damage from the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and record-breaking monsoon rains to get back on their feet, contributing to opening sales channels for them and revitalizing the local economy.
Simmons successfully concluded the 'Support Icheon' farmers market over three days from the 16th to the 18th at 'Simmons Terrace,' a complex cultural space located in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province.
The 'Support Icheon' farmers market was organized by Simmons Beds as a citizen and neighbor of Icheon to introduce agricultural specialties from local farms struggling due to COVID-19 and summer floods, and to contribute to the recovery of the local economy, fostering win-win cooperation with the local community.
Thirteen farms from the Icheon area participated in this event, including Icheon Han-nae Farm, Jeungpo Flower Garden, Sinseonggol Apple Farm, Ha-young Farm, Myungin Farm, Samsung Dume Farm, Seungbong Farm, Kkujippong Owon Farm, Berisao, and the Icheon City Shipping Association. They showcased Icheon's famous rice along with plants, apples, sweet potatoes, grapes, melons, pears, kkujippong, blueberries, shiitake mushrooms, eggplants, green peppers, cucumbers, lotus roots, and burdock, achieving total sales exceeding 30 million KRW.
Simmons Beds took charge of producing and installing the fixtures and displays used in the event and significantly reduced the economic burden on participating farms by pre-purchasing a certain amount of agricultural products. Additionally, they ensured that the participating items did not overlap to consider the farms and broaden visitors' choices.
In particular, the event connected potential consumers to Icheon farms and provided visitors with a trustworthy purchasing channel, raising expectations for the activation of non-face-to-face transactions such as future direct untact transactions of agricultural products.
Meanwhile, Simmons Beds CEO Ahn Jeong-ho recently decided to purchase local agricultural products worth about 100 million KRW to encourage Icheon farms damaged by the summer monsoon and heavy rains. In June, to overcome difficulties caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, CEO Ahn returned part of his salary to create a disaster relief fund and distributed 300,000 KRW to all employees.
