Southern District Prosecutor Chief "Formal Report on Opposition Politicians' Cases to the Supreme Prosecutors' Office by Late August"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] On the 19th, the Ministry of Justice requested an investigation from the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office regarding the 'prosecutor alcohol bribery allegations' claimed by former Star Mobility Chairman Kim Bong-hyun. The Southern District Prosecutors' Office also formed an investigation team and responded immediately.
Park Soon-chul, Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office, disclosed this fact on the 19th during the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee's audit of the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office and its affiliated prosecutors' offices.
Regarding the 'prosecutor corruption' allegations, Chief Prosecutor Park stated, "We have no knowledge of this and are also perplexed," adding, "Based on the Ministry of Justice's inspection results, an investigation request was received, and we formed an investigation team at the Southern District."
It was previously reported that the Ministry of Justice sent an official investigation request document to the Southern District Prosecutors' Office the night before.
When asked by lawmakers who the involved parties were, Chief Prosecutor Park responded, "An investigation must be conducted."
Regarding whether the prosecutors involved are still working at the Southern District Prosecutors' Office, he said, "I cannot confirm that," and in response to Democratic Party lawmaker So Byung-chul's question urging the exclusion of implicated prosecutors from the investigation, he answered, "Of course."
In response to Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Yong-min's question about whether opposition politicians have been booked, he said, "It is difficult to comment as the investigation is ongoing," but added, "We will investigate thoroughly without omission."

He further explained that the case was "reported by the former chief prosecutor during a meeting with the Prosecutor General in May and was formally reported to the Supreme Prosecutors' Office around the end of August."
