Gwangju City Wins Excellence Award at 'Local Internationalization Best Practices Contest'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 19th that it won the Excellence Award in the finals of the "Local Internationalization Best Practices Contest" held on the 16th with the theme "Gwangju City, Standing at the Center of the Global Human Rights Network with the Spirit of Sharing and Solidarity."
Organized by the Korea Association of Governors, this contest aimed to discover and award best practices in local internationalization and to distribute them to all local governments nationwide to provide opportunities for benchmarking among local governments. A total of 243 local governments (17 metropolitan and 226 basic) across the country submitted their best practices.
Through document screening and case presentations in the finals, Gwangju City introduced various efforts and achievements for human rights promotion carried out under the spirit of sharing and solidarity, centered on the World Human Rights Cities Forum, which marked its 10th anniversary this year, attracting significant interest from judges and participants.

Jung Young-hwa, Director of International Cooperation at the city, said, "It is meaningful that Gwangju City's efforts for human rights, a universal value of humanity recognized internationally including by the United Nations (UN), were acknowledged as a best practice in a nationwide local government contest. We will strive to share and develop these experiences with domestic and foreign local governments to firmly establish Gwangju as a true global human rights city."
