[2020 National Audit] Eo Gi-gu: "688 Cases of Prohibited Items Seized at Incheon Port in the Last 5 Years"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] According to the recent 5-year statistics on the detection of prohibited hazardous items submitted by Incheon Port Authority to Eo Gi-gu, a member of the National Assembly's Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock, Food, and Maritime Affairs Committee from the Democratic Party of Korea, a total of 688 cases of prohibited hazardous items were detected at Incheon Port.
The most frequently detected prohibited items were 369 cases of non-cultural heritage counterfeit goods, accounting for 54% of all items, followed by 89 cases of foreign currency counterfeit bills.
Meanwhile, weapons such as firearms, explosives, and swords, which numbered only 5 cases in 2015, increased tenfold to 51 cases last year.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries has prepared a notice under the "International Ship and Port Facility Security Act" that subdivides the targets of prohibited hazardous items to prevent terrorism such as kidnapping, bombing, and shooting on ships in navigation, and has been implementing it since August this year.
