Rhyme·Optimus 'Storm'... Democratic Party "Urgent Need for Corruption Investigation Office" People Power Party "There Is a Special Prosecutor"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] The ruling party, which says the Lime and Optimus fraud cases clearly demonstrate the need for the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Agency (PCC), and the conservative opposition party, which insists the cases should be resolved through a special prosecution, are engaged in a fierce dispute.
On the 18th, Bae Jun-young, spokesperson for the People Power Party, stated in a commentary, "The Democratic Party claims that the Lime and Optimus cases are reasons why the PCC must be established quickly. It's absurd. The PCC's constitutional review decision has not even been made yet," adding, "They are treating the main opposition party like pawns and recklessly trying to amend the law to suit the ruling party's wishes. If that happens, no citizen will recognize the PCC as a neutral investigative agency or trust its results."
Recently, Kim Bong-hyun, former chairman of Star Mobility and a key figure in the Lime case, revealed that he also lobbied prosecutors and opposition politicians. Spokesperson Bae said, "The situation is worsening. More than the president's two stern orders, the political situation is being swayed by every word of the suspect. What exactly do they hold, and who is trembling?"
He continued, "The People Power Party's demand is simple. It is the same as the people's demand. Clarify everything clearly. If a few slippery eels are muddying the waters of the prosecution so much that we cannot see an inch ahead, there is the special prosecution."
Kang Sun-woo, spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Korea, said in a written briefing the day before, "The Lime and Optimus fraud cases are the urgent reasons for the PCC's launch," adding, "The People Power Party, which has been shouting 'power-type gate' day after day regarding the Lime and Optimus fraud cases, has fallen silent as new allegations such as lobbying of opposition figures and prosecutors have emerged."
