'Baekdudaegan Humanities Camp' Held at Gunwi Hwabon Station... Kim Hong-shin Says "Life Also Needs a Layover Station"
The 3rd 2-Day 1-Night Tourism Experience Program Hosted by Gyeongbuk Province This Year
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] The third stage of this year's 'Baekdudaegan Humanities Camp,' hosted by Gyeongsangbuk-do since last year at various locations, was held on the 17th at Hwabon Station in Gunwi.
During the 1-night, 2-day schedule, the first day featured a variety of programs including an invited lecture by a writer, a small concert, literary talks, and a fan signing event.
The invited guest of the day was novelist Kim Hong-shin, famous for "Human Market," Korea's first million-seller with 5.6 million copies sold. Under the theme "Life User Manual," he reflected on his life journey as a professor, former member of the National Assembly, and civic activist, sharing a moment with tourists and residents to contemplate the meaning of autumn.
Writer Kim began his lecture by saying, "I am very honored to give a lecture at Hwabon Station, considered the most beautiful small station in Korea, through a Gunwi autumn trip. Just as life needs a small station to pause briefly, I prepared this lecture hoping that people would take a moment here at Hwabon Station to soothe themselves and ask questions."
He continued, "The dignified value of a person is not assigned by someone else but discovered and given by oneself. I am confident that after overcoming difficult situations well, a time will surely come when we meet, firmly shake hands, and comfort and console each other," urging health awareness in the COVID-19 era.
On the same day, Kim Hong-shin and tourists toured Gunwi's autumn tourist attractions including Samguk Yusa Theme Park, Hanbam Village Stone Wall Road, Hwasan Village, and Namcheon Old House.
Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do, who participated in the camp, said, "I enjoyed reading 'Human Market,' Korea's first million-seller. In these difficult times, I miss the character Jang Chong-chan. Today's lecture was deeply moving as it helped me rediscover the precious self in life and reconsider a world of coexistence."
Meanwhile, the humanities travel program 'Baekdudaegan Humanities Camp,' featuring notable figures, is Gyeongsangbuk-do's representative tourism experience program aimed at spreading a humanities tourism atmosphere by combining humanities with tourism and linking it to tourist attractions as part of humanities celebrity marketing.
