Sangju City's Reverse Thinking... Promoting 'Comprehensive Eco Town' at Livestock Manure Odor Source
'Main Culprit of Odor Complaints' Livestock Environment Office Improvement Project Success
'Eco Town' Service... Full-Scale Development of Surrounding Areas Expected to Begin
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] With the completion of the facility process improvement project at the Livestock Environment Center, which brought foul odors to the Sangju area of Gyeongbuk every summer, development projects in the surrounding area are expected to accelerate.
On the 16th, Sangju City held a final report meeting for the 'Comprehensive ECO Town Development Project Basic Plan' to improve the environment around the Livestock Environment Center at City Hall, attended by Mayor Kang Young-seok, city council members, and representatives of local residents.
The related project has been carried out by Cheongwoo Comprehensive ENC Co., Ltd. since June, after the facility improvement project at the Livestock Environment Center was completed. This project proposes development directions for the area around the center and reviews the feasibility of the development projects.
Based on the results of this project, Sangju City plans to restore the ecology around the Livestock Environment Center and establish an eco-friendly energy town along with a connected biogas plant. Furthermore, as a second phase, the city intends to promote an environmentally friendly rural village creation project.
Previously, the Livestock Environment Center, operated directly by Sangju City, secured 2.3 billion KRW in national funds and, since 2018, has conducted odor improvement projects across all areas including the composting process through technical diagnosis by the Korea Environment Corporation, successfully reducing odor levels below the general odor management standards as of last June.
Located in Bunhwang-ri, Nakdong-myeon, along the Nakdong River, the Livestock Environment Center houses four basic environmental facilities: a public livestock manure treatment facility, a livestock manure composting facility, a food waste treatment facility, and a food waste leachate treatment facility.
