[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The Gwangjin District Council (Chairperson Park Sam-rye) participated in the ‘Visiting Filial Piety Package’ event held at Guui 1-dong Community Service Center in celebration of the Month of the Elderly, and awarded the Gwangjin District Council Chairperson’s Commendation to residents who contributed to the promotion of senior welfare.
To raise social interest and respect for the elderly, the Elderly Welfare Act designates October as the Month of the Elderly every year. Accordingly, Gwangjin District has held various senior-related events, but this year, due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, the commemorative ceremony and events were inevitably canceled. Instead, love and gratitude were conveyed through the ‘Filial Piety Package’ and commendations for residents who respect the elderly.
The ‘Filial Piety Packages’ prepared by each dong contained food ingredients wishing for the health of low-income seniors who are going through difficult times due to COVID-19.
Along with this, the Gwangjin District Council discovered residents who took care of the welfare of local seniors despite the COVID-19 situation and set an example for others, awarding them the Chairperson’s Commendation.
There were a total of two commendation recipients in Guui 1-dong: one model senior leader and one contributor to senior welfare. It is hoped that this commendation will further expand social interest in the elderly.
Chairperson Park Sam-rye said, “Although everyone is having a hard time due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, the health of the elderly is the biggest concern,” and added, “I hope the Filial Piety Package will provide some comfort and encouragement to the elderly.”
