Jeong Ok, Jeonnam Provincial Assembly Member, Demands Construction of 'Eastern Region Disabled Veterans Welfare Center'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] Jeong Ok-nim, a member of the Jeonnam Provincial Assembly (Democratic Party of Korea, proportional representation), emphasized the necessity of establishing a welfare center for disabled veterans in the eastern region and ensuring the effectiveness of sanitary product distribution during the second plenary session of the 347th extraordinary meeting held on the 15th.
Assembly member Jeong stated, "Disabled veterans use the welfare center bathhouse for disabled veterans because general public tend to avoid public bathhouses, allowing them to participate in physical therapy facilities and various cultural lectures. However, they experience inconvenience traveling from the eastern region to Mokpo in the western region with their impaired bodies," and argued, "A welfare center for disabled veterans should be established in the eastern region for the welfare and treatment of disabled veterans there."
Governor Kim Young-rok responded, "I agree on the necessity of establishing a welfare center for disabled veterans in the eastern region. I will request national funding to establish a welfare center for disabled veterans in the eastern region," promising action.
Next, Assembly member Jeong pointed out, "The Jeonnam Office of Education promised to secure 630 million KRW this year for the distribution of female sanitary products, but the actual budget allocated was only 260 million KRW. This amount corresponds to about 4,200 KRW per female student per month, which is barely enough to purchase one pack of sanitary products," emphasizing, "Sanitary products should be distributed not only to children from low-income families but also to all general female students."
