[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jung Soon-gyun, Mayor of Gangnam District, met with Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun at the Prime Minister's Office on the 15th to explain the necessity of introducing high-speed rail at Samseong Station and requested government cooperation.
On this day, Mayor Jung addressed the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's position of not extending the Suseo High-Speed Train (SRT) to Samseong Station due to unclear new demand, stating, "The future Samseong Station will have sufficient demand for high-speed trains, economic feasibility has already been secured, and transfer convenience will be dramatically improved," adding, "Introducing high-speed rail at Samseong Station is not a choice but a necessity for the government's inter-Korean railway project in preparation for the era of peace between North and South Korea."
Earlier, on the 27th of last month, Mayor Jung sent letters urging the introduction of high-speed rail at Samseong Station to the Blue House Policy Office, the Prime Minister's Office, all 299 members of the National Assembly from both ruling and opposition parties, the Democratic Party representative office, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's minister and vice minister offices.
