Yeonggwang-gun Conducts 'Micro Electric Vehicle Demonstration Project' for Residents
[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jeonseong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Junsung) announced on the 15th that it will officially launch a pilot service for residents using ultra-small electric vehicles.
Ultra-small electric vehicles are 1-2 seat vehicles with a rated output of less than 15 kW and a maximum speed of 80 km/h or less, capable of traveling about 100 km on a single 3-hour charge.
Last July, the county was selected for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s Industrial Technology Innovation Project, “Pilot Project for Fostering Ultra-Small Electric Vehicle Industry and Services,” and has since been building charging infrastructure and a system for collecting and analyzing pilot data to promote the project.
The “Pilot Project for Fostering Ultra-Small Electric Vehicle Industry and Services” aims to expand the market base of ultra-small electric vehicles, which are key future transportation modes, by enhancing quality and services and developing new mobility business models, thereby strengthening the competitiveness of related industries mainly composed of small and medium-sized enterprises.
Additionally, centered on Yeonggwang, the project will conduct pilot tests and provide services for four tasks: small-scale logistics delivery and car-sharing services using ultra-small electric vehicles, and mobility support services for public transportation underserved areas.
To promote this project, a total of 55 electric vehicle slow chargers have been installed at 19 locations including Mannam Square, the old market parking lot, and town and township offices.
The county plans to deploy 51 ultra-small electric vehicles of five models, including the Cevo C produced by Camsys, a resident company of Daema Industrial Complex, the first complete vehicle manufacturer in the province, to collect pilot data through the execution of each task.
Residents and tourists with a driver’s license who wish to use the ultra-small electric vehicle car-sharing and mobility services in public transportation underserved areas (Daema Industrial Complex) can easily use the service after simple membership registration and identity verification through a smartphone application and payment of a prescribed usage fee (Socar car-sharing: 4,380 KRW per hour; mobility service in underserved areas: free).
