Chonnam National University Aims to Cultivate Next-Generation Scholars...Significantly Strengthening Academic System and Employment Support
Establishment of Over 10 Advanced Field Departments for Master's and Doctoral Programs
Strengthening Measures Including Dedicated 'Employment Support Officers' for Graduate Students
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Chonnam National University announced on the 15th that it will significantly strengthen its academic system focused on nurturing the next generation of scholars and employment support, and will begin recruiting new students.
The Graduate School of Chonnam National University (Dean Professor Baek Jangseon) established about 10 related departments this year in its integrated master's and doctoral programs to cultivate talent in advanced fields, including the Department of Artificial Intelligence Convergence, Department of ICT Convergence Systems Engineering, Department of Convergence Smart Agriculture, and Smart City Cooperative Program.
This is to proactively respond to the need for the advancement of cutting-edge studies required in the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the post-COVID-19 era, as well as the demands of graduate students, creating consistency in advanced field education from undergraduate to graduate levels.
The selection of 24 education and research groups (teams) in the Ministry of Education's BK21 Phase 4 project also signals a positive outlook for nurturing the next generation of scholars.
This ranks 7th nationwide and 3rd among national universities, an excellent achievement. The university will receive additional support from the Ministry of Education as 'Graduate School Innovation Funds.'
The Graduate School of Chonnam National University has applied for a total project budget of 2 billion KRW to accelerate the nurturing of the next generation of scholars through graduate school system reform.
Along with this, the university plans to more actively support the employment of graduate students, which has been a stumbling block in nurturing the next generation of scholars.
Continuing the placement of dedicated employment support officers for graduate students, first introduced last year at national universities, from this year it has greatly enhanced specialized employment programs for graduate students, including ▲online employment counseling ▲special lectures on customized self-introduction letter writing ▲Career up for graduate students: mentoring by successful alumni ▲online intensive NCS training and mock exams for graduate students.
Meanwhile, Chonnam National University is accepting online applications for new students for the 2021 academic year spring semester general graduate school until the 21st.
