[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) will hold a ‘Village Community Festival’ and a ‘Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail Flea Market’ on the 17th at Nowon's famous spots, Danghyeoncheon and the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail, respectively.
First, the ‘Village Community Festival’ will open at 10 a.m. This festival, now in its 6th year, will begin at the Danghyeoncheon ground fountain (near Korea Bible University) and will be held both online and offline due to COVID-19.
Online, from 11:30 a.m., interviews and performances by village support activists and project managers will be broadcast on the YouTube channel (Nowon Village Community Support Center). The program will include stories about how activities as village support activists contribute to personal growth and the community, as well as guitar and choir performances by village project managers.
On-site, from 10 a.m., residents involved in village community activities will distribute 400 “Together Packages” containing handmade mask protectors, sock yarn crafts, pinwheels, and promotional materials. A small number of group T-shirts will also be given out through an on-site quiz, and the crafting methods for the items in the Together Packages will be shared online.
From 1 p.m., a flea market will be held in front of the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail Visitor Center. Named the ‘Chuchu Market’ to evoke the sound of trains that used to run on the Gyeongchun Line, the event will run until 9 p.m. on the same day, exhibiting and selling 14 types of creative handmade products such as knitting, accessories, tumblers, and shopping bags.
Organized jointly by the Nowon Green Campus Town Project Group, Gongneung Dream Village Cooperative, and a public-private-academic alliance, this flea market is being held for the first time. It was planned to provide a stepping stone for entrepreneurship and job opportunities to artists and students struggling with life due to COVID-19.
Out of 27 teams that applied through an open recruitment in September, 21 teams were selected after screening. The selected teams will exhibit their self-made products, explain the production process to buyers, and directly sell their items, experiencing a day as CEOs.
