Hong Joon-pyo: "We Must Unite Regardless of Anti-Moon Jae-in or Anti-Leftist"
"Soulful Man Kim Moon-soo... A Great Asset to the Conservative Right"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Former Liberty Korea Party leader Hong Joon-pyo stated on the 14th, “The opposition party’s approval rating has plummeted significantly. I often hear that party members are refusing to pay their membership fees, and some even openly say they will leave the party,” adding, “Now is the time to create a united conservative right-wing party.”
On the same day, Hong said on Facebook, “The next presidential election will inevitably be a left-right confrontation comparable to the post-liberation left-wing and right-wing conflict,” and “So-called swing voters in the moderate middle tend to side with the stronger faction. There has never been a policy aimed at the moderate middle from the start.”
Hong emphasized, “We must unite to grow our power and attract moderates. We must not avoid struggle or try to comfortably build a small fortress as a petty lord without confronting the left-wing second tier,” and “Those who oppose Moon Jae-in and the left must unite regardless of who they are.”
Regarding former Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-soo, Hong said, “A man with a pure soul, Kim Moon-soo, as I said when we worked together in the 17th National Assembly in 2006,” and added, “Kim refused to run in the Dongjak by-election and instead went down to Daegu, which became a power vacuum after former President Park Geun-hye, where his steps began to falter. After losing the general election, he also lost the Seoul mayoral race, wandered due to former leader Hwang Kyo-ahn’s obstruction, and eventually became deeply involved with Pastor Jeon Kwang-hoon, being labeled as far-right. It’s truly regrettable.”

Hong said, “Kim Moon-soo is a great asset to the conservative right-wing camp,” and “Kim, who most vehemently rejects totalitarianism, cannot be far-right, and having turned away from pro-North leftists with a belief in liberal democracy, he cannot be a left-wing second tier.”
