According to KNU on the 14th, the recommendation for the appointment of Professor Hong as president was approved at the Cabinet meeting held the previous day. The presidential term will be four years starting from the 21st.
Professor Hong was elected as the top candidate in the direct election for the president of KNU held on July 15. Subsequently, after undergoing a research ethics verification process on the candidate's publications and papers by the KNU Research Integrity Committee, he was recommended as the presidential candidate on August 31.

Professor Hong graduated from Daegu Gyeongwon High School and Kyungpook National University, then completed his master's and doctoral courses at Waseda University in Japan. Since 1999, he has served as a professor at KNU, holding positions such as Dean of the College of Engineering, Director of Industry-Academic Research, and Director of External Cooperation.
