BLACKPINK, First Girl Group to Top Billboard 'Artist 100' Chart
BTS Ranks 2nd "Two K-pop Groups Dominate Top Positions"
Girl group BLACKPINK reached number 2 on the US Billboard main album chart with their first full-length album and then climbed to number 1 on the ‘Artist 100’ chart.
Billboard reported on the 13th (local time) that BLACKPINK surged from number 65 to number 1 on the ‘Artist 100’ chart. The ‘Artist 100’ chart showcases the influence and recognition of top pop stars at a glance. It compiles data from album and single sales, radio airplay, streaming counts, and social media activity.
BLACKPINK topped the chart for the first time with the release of their first full album, THE ALBUM, on the 6th. Since the ‘Artist 100’ chart was launched in 2014, this is the first time a girl group has reached number 1 among all pop stars.
Second place was taken by BTS. Billboard stated, “Two K-pop groups dominated the top ranks.” BTS had previously recorded their tenth number 1 on the ‘Artist 100’ chart released on the 29th of last month.
