View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Eom Jae-sik, Chairman of the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission, will hold bilateral video conferences with the heads of regulatory agencies in Canada and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on the 13th and 15th, respectively.
They will discuss sharing experiences in nuclear safety regulation and ways to strengthen international cooperation amid the global spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
On the 13th, through a bilateral meeting with Lumina Belshi, Chairperson of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, they discussed the current status of nuclear safety regulation in both countries in response to COVID-19 and plans for international cooperation.
Regarding the bilateral meetings that have been ongoing since 2017, they agreed to form a working group to conduct in-depth discussions and share information on areas requiring continuous cooperation between the two countries, such as severe accidents and aging degradation.
On the 15th, a bilateral meeting will be held with Christer Viktorson, Director General of the UAE Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation, to share experiences in nuclear power plant safety regulation during the COVID-19 situation.
