Police Begin Verifying Facts Regarding Allegations Against Lee Dong-jin, Jindo County Governor
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Amid the ongoing truth dispute between Jindo County Governor Lee Dong-jin and a businessman, the police have drawn attention by launching an investigation to verify the facts.
According to the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency on the 13th, an investigation is underway regarding Jindo County Governor Lee Dong-jin's lawsuit for the return of a large entertainment expense and allegations of election fund acceptance by an aide.
The police plan to send investigators to Jeonju, Jeonbuk, where businessman Jeong resides, on the 14th to examine the details related to Jeong, who raised suspicions about the governor's entertainment expense return lawsuit and election fund acceptance.
During the face-to-face investigation with Jeong, the police intend to verify the accuracy of media reports and secure related evidence.
A representative from the Intelligent Crime Investigation Unit of the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency stated, "This investigation of Jeong corresponds to a pre-investigation stage. After confirming the facts, if there is any criminal suspicion, we will decide whether to proceed with a formal investigation."
Earlier, businessman Jeong, an investment attraction advisory committee member of Jindo County, filed a payment order lawsuit on behalf of fellow businessman Baek at the Gunsan branch of Jeonju District Court in early September, demanding the repayment of 350 million KRW from Governor Lee Dong-jin.
Jeong claims that this loan was entertainment expenses he paid while accompanying Governor Lee on business trips to Seoul, Jeonju, Jindo, and China since February 2018, after being introduced to the governor through an acquaintance for a floating solar power construction project in Jindo.
He also revealed that he delivered 100 million KRW in election funds in two installments in February and March 2018 to Lee Mo, an investment attraction advisor and close aide of Governor Lee.
