Establishment of Industry-Academia-Research Joint Center in University Dragon Valley ... Selected for Busan-type New Deal Project
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Pukyong National University has ventured into pioneering the clean fuel maritime transport system industry, including LNG bunkering systems for small vessels.
The Pukyong National University LINC+ Project Group (Director Seo Yong-cheol) announced on the 13th that it has launched the establishment of the "Global LNG/Hydrogen Fuel Bunkering Industry-Academia-Research Joint Center."
The center aims to lead the development of industries related to land and maritime mobility based on clean fuels such as liquefied natural gas (LNG) and hydrogen fuel, which are attracting attention as future growth engines, by collaborating among industry, academia, and research institutes to promote related technology development and workforce training.
To overcome the prolonged slump in the shipbuilding industry caused by COVID-19, the center's goal is to develop small LNG bunkering vessels and related systems centered around the Busan region.
To this end, since July, the Pukyong National University LINC+ Project Group has been accepting letters of intent from local shipbuilding and offshore plant-related companies and has recruited 24 domestic and international companies so far.
By the end of this year, the center will be established as a non-profit corporation within Dragon Valley on the Yongdang Campus, planning to accommodate up to 40 companies and research institutes.
The project group recently applied for the Busan Industrial Science Innovation Institute's external cooperation planning support project (Busan-type New Deal) to plan detailed projects and attract national core technology leading projects to the region and was selected as a project recipient.
Accordingly, centered on the center, the project group plans to strengthen corporate technological capabilities and create local youth jobs through developing ultra-low temperature clean fuel unit system technologies, business development for overseas orders of the system and small eco-friendly vessels, and training specialized personnel for ultra-low temperature eco-friendly fuel systems.
