Yangcheon-gu Holds 'Sector-specific' Forum for Proactive Response to COVID-19 Spread
From 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM on the 14th, an online session will be held for about 30 frontline workers from resident contact facilities and public-private intermediary support organizations to share field experiences and discuss response strategies.
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Su-young) will hold an online policy discussion for 90 minutes from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM on the 14th to share field experiences with frontline workers, gain inspiration related to overall district administration, and exchange ideas.
Since 2014, the district has held ten roundtable discussions on various topics such as education, airport noise countermeasures, climate change, and women-friendly cities, where residents and experts gathered to propose policy alternatives.
As a representative venue for resident participation in Yangcheon-gu over the past six years, the “Sectoral Resident Discussion” will be held this year in a safe online discussion format.
This year’s online discussion was planned to prepare administrative responses to our local community, which has undergone rapid changes following the global spread of COVID-19.
On this day, the “Online Policy Discussion” will feature about 30 frontline workers from public-private governance (intermediary support organizations) in sectors such as district-run cultural, welfare, and childcare facilities closely related to residents’ lives, urban regeneration resident communities, and village community support centers. Together with Mayor Kim Su-young of Yangcheon-gu, they will share episodes experienced during COVID-19, present ideas they want to share, and exchange opinions.
Additionally, the discussion will be streamed live on Yangcheon-gu Office’s official YouTube channel, YangcheonTV, allowing any residents interested in district administration to watch freely.
These frontline workers reported that as social distancing measures were implemented in stages according to the spread of COVID-19, they experienced unprecedented changes in facility operations within district-run facilities closely related to residents’ lives, such as welfare centers, cultural centers, daycare centers, and libraries. These changes included long-term closures, reduced operating hours and programs, and the introduction of non-face-to-face operation methods.
A Yangcheon-gu official stated, “We expect that sharing these diverse experiences encountered by frontline workers in the field with other institutions or facilities will reduce administrative trial and error and serve as a foundation for providing better administrative services.”
The district also announced that the discussion results will be reflected in the next year’s work plans and budgets for each institution and facility. Furthermore, they are preparing to produce a “COVID-19 White Paper” that compiles COVID-19 response experiences to be used as a public quarantine and administrative response manual.

Mayor Kim Su-young of Yangcheon-gu said, “Since this year was the first year experiencing COVID-19, not only the district but the whole world was busy passively coping with unfamiliar situations. Next year, we will try every possible attempt to prepare more proactively. I firmly believe that the valuable experiences of frontline workers, which can only be gained in the field, will serve as precious nourishment for creating good policies that residents can truly feel.”
