KT Altteul Phone and M Mobile Launch 'Senior Citizen Exclusive Plans'
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] KT M Mobile announced on the 12th that it will launch a senior-exclusive communication service in collaboration with the Seoul Metropolitan Government to bridge the digital divide among the elderly.
This service was launched through cooperation among four organizations and companies: the Seoul Metropolitan Government, KT M Mobile, LG Electronics, and Hi Plaza, with the aim of enhancing digital accessibility for the elderly.
KT M Mobile will support a policy offering residents of Seoul aged 65 and older until December 31 of this year, providing a public subsidy of 100,000 KRW for the LG Electronics budget smartphone ‘LG Q51’ along with an unlimited voice plan ‘Call Freely 1.5G’ (1.5GB LTE data per month) for 8,900 KRW per month. Eligible users can use the service for a monthly payment of 18,600 KRW, which includes the device installment (based on 24 months) and the plan fee. Device purchase and activation will be available at a total of 35 LG Best Shop locations directly operated by Hi Plaza within Seoul.
Among the communication services and benefits KT M Mobile has introduced so far, the ‘senior-exclusive service’ is the only product that applies both device public subsidies and plan discounts simultaneously. KT M Mobile plans to continuously strengthen policies such as specialized plans, senior counseling services, and distribution of exclusive devices to reduce communication costs for the elderly and expand their use of digital information.
In fact, the proportion of subscribers aged 60 and over for the low-cost unlimited voice plans revised in July to ease the communication cost burden for information-vulnerable groups, ‘Call Freely 300M’ (7,250 KRW per month, 300MB LTE data) and ‘Call Freely 2.5G’ (11,600 KRW per month, 2.5GB LTE data), reached 25.4% and 26.0%, respectively. Additionally, specialized professional counseling training tailored to senior inquiries is being conducted for call center staff, covering voice volume and intonation, explanations of communication terms, and fraud prevention guidance.
