Public D-1 iPhone 12, Face ID Faster and Zoom Improved
"Face ID Speed Improvement Algorithm Applied... Zoom Function Enhanced"
"iPhone 12 Pro Model Battery Life Extended by Over 1 Hour"
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The unveiling of Apple's iPhone 12 series is just one day away. Thanks to the rapid commercialization of 5G, South Korea is included among the first wave of launch countries, and Korean users are expected to get their hands on the new iPhones starting at the end of this month. The Face ID performance of the iPhone 12 series is expected to be faster, and the digital zoom capabilities are anticipated to be improved compared to the previous models.
On the 11th (local time), IT tipster Max Weinbach explained on the PineLeaks Twitter account, "Apple is introducing an algorithm feature that allows faster Face ID on the iPhone 12," adding, "The digital zoom function on all iPhone 12 models will be significantly enhanced, and the optical zoom on the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max will also be improved."
He continued, "The battery life of the iPhone 12 Pro models is expected to increase by more than an hour," but added, "However, due to its form factor, the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 will have lower battery performance than the iPhone 11."
Released in 4 models... Prices and release schedule?
The iPhone 12 series will be released in a total of four models: the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 Mini, the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro, and the 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max. The iPhone 12 Mini is expected to be a mid-size device between the iPhone SE and iPhone 8, and there are also predictions that it will be released as an LTE model. All four iPhone 12 models feature OLED displays and have edges reminiscent of the squared-off design of the iPhone 4.
As the unveiling date approaches, speculation about prices and release schedules is pouring in. IT tipster Ice Universe tweeted, "The iPhone 12 Mini will start at $699, and the iPhone 12 will start at $799." Considering that the iPhone 11 started at $699 (with a domestic retail price of 990,000 KRW), the price of the most affordable model is similar. Contrary to forecasts of $749 for the iPhone 12 series, prices may be set $50 higher, potentially exceeding 1.1 million KRW.
The release schedule for the smallest 5.4-inch iPhone 12 Mini and the largest 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max is delayed until November, which is expected to somewhat disperse demand. Speculation that some models of the iPhone 12 series would have delayed release dates has been ongoing since the first half of the year. Ice Universe explained, "Pre-orders for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro will start on the 16th or 17th, while pre-orders for the iPhone 12 Mini will begin on November 6, and for the iPhone 12 Pro Max on November 13 or 14."
In South Korea, the iPhone 12 series is expected to be officially released at the end of this month, with pre-sales starting on the 23rd. Although slightly later than the U.S., this is a significant advancement compared to the past when Korea was usually included in the third wave of launches and released more than a month later. It is interpreted as an opportunity for Apple to increase market share by introducing the first 5G iPhone in Korea. As of the end of August, the number of 5G subscribers in Korea is 8.65 million. Domestic carriers are expected to launch aggressive marketing campaigns targeting iPhone users who have delayed upgrading, competing fiercely for 5G subscribers.
Camera and AP also upgraded
The top two iPhone 12 models will feature triple cameras, while the lower two models will have dual cameras. The iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max models will be equipped with a ToF 3D sensor. This allows high-quality 3D photo capture and augmented reality (AR) functionality, using a system similar to the front TrueDepth camera system used for Face ID. The lower models are expected to have ultra-wide and wide lenses respectively. The iPhone 12 will be powered by Apple's A14 processor, which is expected to offer higher power efficiency and faster performance than its predecessor. Ice Universe predicted, "The iPhone 12 Pro models will support a 120Hz refresh rate."

With the inclusion of 5G components, a price increase is inevitable, but to maintain a price level similar to last year, chargers and wired earphones will be excluded. Reducing accessories will shrink the package size, lowering shipping costs. The EU Parliament has also introduced a resolution urging the standardization of chargers to reduce electronic waste, and by excluding chargers, Apple can claim to be participating in this effort. Instead of chargers and earphones, the iPhone 12 package is expected to include a premium, more durable Lightning cable.
