Seongbuk-gu has been selecting five individuals and two projects that have brightened the region over the past 10 years each year to honor their achievements and set them as examples for residents and employees. The ‘Seongbuk Hall of Fame’ has been established on the ‘Health Staircase’ inside the district office building.
This year’s outstanding project awards were given to the Health and Hygiene Division, which organized the ‘Dugeun Dugeun Byeolgil Market’ to tidy up the illegal and harmful business district and support youth startups, and the Cadastral Division, which realized historical correction by changing the road name from ‘Inchon-ro’ to ‘Goryeo-daero’ after efforts involving over 9,000 resident visits.
The honorary citizens who illuminated Seongbuk were selected in five categories: community development, good deeds and volunteer work, public morals, culture and sports, and exemplary youth.
In the community development category, Ms. Lee Sook-hee (52, Dongseon-dong) was recognized for implementing the ‘Love’s Small Sharing Movement,’ a community return project. She also supported local cultural events and contributed to neighborly help, community harmony, and development through continuous volunteering and sponsorship.
In the good deeds and volunteer work category, Ms. Lee Eun-mi (56, Jeongneung 1-dong) was acknowledged for providing balanced meals to elderly living alone in the Jeongneung area through weekly free meals and side dish deliveries since 2007, offering emotional support as well.
She has consistently volunteered every week, accumulating approximately 2,756 hours of service as of last year.
In the public morals category, Ms. Kim Hyun-im (49, Wolgok 1-dong) has been caring for her mother, who has been battling stroke and dementia since 1998. Her utmost filial piety has spread the value of filial duty to neighbors and set an example of devotion, earning her recognition as a figure who illuminated Seongbuk.
In the culture and sports category, Mr. Kim Byung-gu (72, Jeongneung-dong) served as the president of the former Seongbuk-gu Sports for All Association for six consecutive years, working to promote the health of Seongbuk residents and the development of community sports. He is known for his exceptional passion for residents’ health and has volunteered in related fields. Currently, as the president of the Seongbuk Sports Council, he is actively engaged in various activities for the development of sports in Seongbuk.
In the exemplary youth category, Mr. Kim Kyung-deok (20, Jeongneung 2-dong) has been active as a dementia-specialized volunteer with the ‘Seongbuk Memory Keeper’ since 2013, visiting dementia patients’ homes once a week to provide cognitive learning and meal services. Additionally, he has consistently volunteered in elderly care at senior centers and led promotional activities for dementia awareness and prevention.
