SKB Fined for 'T-Broad Gapjil' Says Court Rules Not Illegal
[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] Regarding the Fair Trade Commission's imposition of a large fine on TiBroad, which was merged into SK Broadband, for violating the Agency Act and the Fair Trade Act, SK Broadband has confirmed its position that the court's judgment was not illegal.
On the 11th, the Fair Trade Commission announced that it would impose a corrective order and a fine of 351 million KRW on SK Broadband, and issue a corrective order to BroadBand Nowon Broadcasting.
According to the Fair Trade Commission, before TiBroad was merged into SK Broadband, in February 2017, it unilaterally reduced the commissions paid to agencies, and to clear out leftover budget phones as bad inventory, in 2013-2014, it forced agency field staff to replace 535 work devices with its own budget phones. Additionally, in August 2014, it unilaterally changed the names of digital broadcasting (30 units) and high-speed internet service (35 lines) products held by existing agency owners to new agencies, and forced them to retain these services for the entire three-year contract period.
