70s Elderly in Mokpo Confirmed Positive for COVID-19
Suspected Secondary Infection Due to Visiting Family Members During Chuseok
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seunghyun Jeong] On the evening of the 8th, around 9 PM, Ms. A (75, female), residing in Mokpo, tested positive for COVID-19.
Ms. A visited the emergency room of Mokpo Jungang Hospital at around 5:40 PM on the 7th. Due to suspected COVID-19 symptoms, she was transferred to the screening clinic, tested, and received a positive result on the evening of the 8th.
According to Mokpo City on the 9th, the emergency room of Mokpo Jungang Hospital, where the COVID-19 positive case was confirmed, is currently closed, and disinfection measures are underway to prevent secondary infections.
A representative from the Mokpo City Health Center stated, “Considering that the elderly woman has underlying health conditions that limit her mobility and that she had no outside activities, secondary infection from external family members who visited her home around last Chuseok is suspected, and an epidemiological investigation is currently underway.”
In Mokpo, after a 60-year-old woman (Mokpo case number 13) who was attending a nursing hospital was infected on August 30, a community infection case has reoccurred after 40 days. Health authorities are verifying Ms. A’s infection route and movement history.
