People Power Party: "Did the ruling party cover for Optimus... The President must order a thorough investigation"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyemin] The People Power Party's Private Equity Fund Special Committee urged on the 8th that "President Moon Jae-in must immediately order a thorough investigation by the investigative agencies" regarding allegations of corruption involving ruling party figures and the Optimus private equity fund.
Yu Eui-dong, chairman of the People Power Party's Private Equity Fund Special Committee, along with other members, held a press conference at the National Assembly that morning, calling for an unreserved investigation by the prosecution.
The committee stated, "Following allegations of Lee Nak-yeon's, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, regional office's copier rental fee being paid on his behalf, suspicions have arisen that Blue House officials, members of the National Assembly, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the National Tax Service, among other high-ranking public officials, had connections with Optimus and covered for them. Although it is cautious to confirm the facts solely based on the documents submitted to the prosecution, since these are internal documents prepared by Optimus affiliates, their credibility appears to be very high."
The committee added, "The regime that gave no response despite the opposition and victims demanding a fact-finding investigation is now revealing clearer reasons for their silence. This case is a 'power-type corruption' and 'corruption of the Moon administration' involving Blue House personnel, members of the National Assembly, Democratic Party affiliates, and senior officials of the current government all at once," sharply criticizing.
The committee demanded, "The president must immediately order thorough investigations by the prosecution and other investigative agencies," and "The prosecution should investigate the facts thoroughly based on law and justice without being influenced by anyone."
Regarding Lee Nak-yeon, they raised their voice, saying, "He should clearly disclose to the public who the related lawmakers and party officials are, including those involved in his own allegations, what roles they played, and bear the heavy responsibility required of the ruling party, taking appropriate responsibility and apologizing."

After the press conference, Representative Yu told reporters, "We are confirming whether other public officials besides Lee Nak-yeon are involved with Optimus," adding, "There is a considerable amount of accumulated information and achievements through many people's reports, but it is not yet the stage to disclose them." He also said, "We plan to organize and announce the parts related to institutional improvements."
